Neil Road Shophouse

Singapore | 2013
Authentic heritage living.
Organic conservation and redevelopment of a Peranakan shophouse, maintaining the authenticity of the shophouse typology while harmoniously weaving in new interventions - reflecting the stories of past and present occupants.
The old building was unmasked to reveal it’s original beauty: stripping of the facade paintwork to reveal its original colour, exposing & preserving of rare local clay bricks, cleaning up of sculptural fresco, flaming of timber doors and window to strip off paint coatings. Conserved elements were re-used in the new extension: old timber balustrades, original local clay bricks (painstakingly retrieved from hacked walls), and the original iron gate.
